Dear Parents and Carers,
With a growing school enrolment, as well as an increasing number of parents now choosing to drop off and pick up students in the Cornock Avenue carpark, we are now experiencing severe traffic congestion at peak times.
As a result, we have had a concerning number of near misses and accidents in and around our Cornock Avenue carpark. These accidents have involved both students and vehicles.
Clearly the safety of our students is our major concern and the Department of Education’s School Security Unit has advised that we need to take immediate action to minimise risk and improve the level of safety for students, staff and parents.
We need to make changes to our procedures based on recent School Security Unit advice. The immediate changes are:
• In the mornings, the gates to the school carpark will be closed to all traffic with the exception of staff and delivery vehicles entering the carpark
• In the afternoon, the gates to the school carpark will also be closed to all traffic to allow students to exit the school safely
• Parents are advised to drop their children at the Binnalong Road entrance or at the end of Cornock Ave or Knox St and allow their children to walk the remaining distance to school.
We are also investigating the use of traffic calming devices within the school carpark and the installation of electronic gates to further ensure the safety of students as our population continues to increase.
