Year 11 and 12 informal practice examinations

19 Mar 2019

As a result of changes to the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) HSC assessment guidelines in 2018,  students in Year 11 are required to complete a maximum of 3 assessment tasks and students in Year 12 a maximum of 4 assessment tasks. Only one of these tasks can be a formal written exam in the hall.

As part of our focus on improving the HSC performance of all students and after consultation with students and staff, we have decided to hold non-assessable practice examinations during Week 1, Term 2 for students in Years 11 and 12 so that students can gain additional experience of HSC style exam conditions. Year 11 and 12 students will complete written examinations in the hall during this time in all subjects.

We aim to identify your child’s strengths and weaknesses during this process so that students can improve their examination performance before attempting the formal assessment examinations at the end of their course. To gain the most from these practice examinations, students need to ensure that they have thoroughly prepared, both in terms of content knowledge and expected examination technique. While performance in these exams will be reported on Semester One reports with an exam mark and exam rank, the marks will not contribute to the reported assessment rank and will indicate progress only.

The examination period will start on Tuesday 30th of April and end on Friday 3rd of May. Students need to be at school 10 minutes before the start of their examinations and remain for the whole duration of the exam.

Please contact Mrs Bounos, Year 11 Adviser or Ms Garrett, Year 12 Adviser on 9631 9651 should you require any further information.
